How to Perform Hajj: Step-by-Step Guide

Perform Ghusl, wear the two unstitched white cloths (for men) or modest clothing (for women), make your solemn intention (Niyyah) for Hajj, and continuously recite the Talbiyah until the first stone is cast at Jamarat.

Enter the Grand Mosque with reverence. Perform the seven anti-clockwise circuits around the Kaaba starting from the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad), pray two Rak'ahs at Maqam Ibrahim, and drink Zamzam water.

Walk seven one-way laps between the hills of Safa and Marwah, beginning at Safa and ending at Marwah. Men hasten between the green light markers while engaging in supplication and Quranic remembrance.

Travel to Mina before Dhuhr. Pray Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr of the 9th Dhul Hijjah shortened (Qasr) without combining, spending the night in remembrance and spiritual contemplation.

The pinnacle rite of Hajj. Listen to the Khutbah, combine Dhuhr and Asr prayers, and stand facing the Qiblah in earnest repentance, praise, and continuous supplication until the sun completely sets.

Depart Arafah after sunset without praying Maghrib. Arrive at Muzdalifah, pray Maghrib and Isha combined with shortened Isha, collect pebbles for the Jamarat stoning, rest under the night sky, and pray Fajr.

Proceed to the Jamarat in Mina and throw seven consecutive pebbles at the largest pillar (Jamarat al-Aqaba), reciting Allahu Akbar with each throw. Perform the animal sacrifice (Qurbani) and shave or trim your hair (Halq/Taqsir) to achieve first Tahallul.

Proceed to Masjid al-Haram to perform the obligatory Tawaf al-Ifadah around the Kaaba and the Sa'i of Hajj (if not completed earlier). With this completed, second Tahallul is achieved, lifting all Ihram restrictions.

Stay overnight in Mina. Each afternoon after Zawal (midday), stone all three Jamarat pillars sequentially—minor (Sughra), middle (Wusta), and major (Aqaba)—throwing seven pebbles at each and making lengthy dua after the first two.

Before your final departure from Makkah, complete a final seven circuits of Tawaf al-Wada around the Kaaba. This final rite concludes your sacred pilgrimage, after which you depart with prayers for an accepted Hajj Mabrur.
